Human Factors Studies Internship

Description

Bigelow Aerospace is seeking a Human Factors Studies intern. This is a paid internship based on experience and it is offered throughout the year for a period of three months. We have openings for both part time and full time internships. Potential full time hiring opportunities will be based on evaluations made upon completion of the internship period. This includes performance, work ethic, and specific needs of the department. All interns must be able to work out of our North Las Vegas headquarters.

About You

You should be a highly motivated, highly analytical self-starter with good communication skills (both written and verbal), and should be able to work in an iterative and prototype-focused development style with a cross-functional team including mechanical and electrical engineering, software development, design, human factors, fabrication and research. You are diligent with deadlines and can work in a team environment. Most importantly, you’re excited to be part of something big!

Responsibilities

Because we are a small and nimble team, you will have the opportunity to work with, and learn from, everyone on our team. Some specific responsibilities include:
  • Under the instruction of our Systems Engineering staff, the intern will conduct studies on human factors design and human utilization interfaces, using both CAD models and prototype hardware
  • Work directly with Systems Engineering and other engineering disciplines to understand the spacecraft systems and associated end user needs
  • Research industry-standard handbooks and documents to establish guidelines for designing systems for human use
  • Research commercial off-the-shelf hardware for crew systems
  • Produce reports, diagrams and presentations that examine the suitability of system placement and as-designed interfaces for practicality, efficiency and safety

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or Industrial Design
  • Knowledge of Solid Works CAD software a plus

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
