Softgoods Systems Engineer

Responsibilities and Qualifications

  • Develop, implement, and improve systems engineering processes in the Softgoods Structures Design Department
  • Write subsystem-level requirements, interface definitions, verification criteria, trade studies, concepts of operation, and engineering reports (analysis, test, statements of work)
  • Lead on Softgoods Structures outsourced contract management including leading role on technical interface meetings, design reviews and contractor communications
  • Support design and development of integrated Softgoods Systems
  • Define and lead Softgoods Structures verification requirements and testing
  • At least 3-5 years of spacecraft systems engineering experience (additional years and/or involvement with human spaceflight are preferred)
  • Bachelors or Masters Degree in Aerospace or related discipline
  • Experience with flow-down and allocation of customer-provided and program/vehicle-level requirements to the subsystem/component-level specifications
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and improve systems engineering processes
  • Detail-oriented and familiar with both peer review and configuration management
  • Professional communication skills for engineering coordination and subcontractor oversight
  • Established technical depth in aerospace structures
  • Ability to explain the critical role and key benefits of systems engineering in plain English to any audience
  • Professional communication skills for engineering coordination and subcontractor oversight
  • Able to simultaneously maintain several important tasks in-process, with prioritized schedule management
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Data visualization skills are essential
  • Experience gained through the military or within an aviation or aerospace company is a plus
  • Self starter and the ability to work independently on multiple tasks
