Technical Writer, Proposal Writer


Responsibilities

  • Determines proposal concept by studying requests for proposal (RFPs) and attending strategy meetings.
  • Works closely with a team of scientists, engineers and project managers to rapidly produce proposals and technical reports in the field of commercial aerospace.
  • Must be able to take direction in a fast paced environment and meet proposal deadlines by establishing priorities and target dates for information gathering, writing, review, and approval; entering and monitoring tracking data; coordinating requirements with contributors; contributing proposal status information to review meetings.
  • Develops proposals by assembling information such as objectives/outcomes/deliverables, implementation, methods, timetable, staffing, budget, standards of performance, and evaluation; writing, revising, and editing drafts including executive summaries, conclusions, and organization credentials.
  • Maintains quality results by; following proposal-writing standards including readability, consistency, and tone; maintaining proposal support databases.
  • Obtains approvals by reviewing proposal with key providers and project managers.
  • Improves proposal-writing results by evaluating and re-designing processes, approach, coordination, and boilerplate; implementing changes.
  • Apply Bigelow Aerospace standards per Quality Management guidelines.
  • Conduct reviews with team members regarding projects.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field of study.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Project management and scheduling skills (PMP certification is a plus).
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Extensive knowledge in understanding of Microsoft Office and associated software tools.
  • When faced with a large number of requests, can prioritize project tasks based on criticality and adjust priorities accordingly.
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
  • Must be able to work as a team player and require minimal supervision.
  • Experience with ISO9001 or AS9100 Quality Management Systems a plus.
  • Experience gained through government service or within an aviation or aerospace manufacturing company is a plus.

Since 2006, we have successfully launched and deployed three expandable space structures, to include a human-rated module attached to the International Space Station. Presently, we are working on the research, design, and development of our next generation of human-rated expandable habitats, the B330 spacecraft. We are also currently partnered with NASA to assist with developing commercial and deep space habitation concepts as part of their NextSTEP (Next Space Technologies for Exploration Partnerships) Habitation Systems program.
